Updated regularly…

Ceramic craftsmanship is flourishing, both in ceramic art and ceramic design. That is what we celebrate at Keramikfestival: the diversity of nuances. For this reason, Keramikfestival’s exhibitions range from craft and everyday objects to the innovative vanguards of Danish and international art.

Ceramic gift to Skælskør

To mark Keramikfestival’s 10th anniversary, local ceramicist Gerda Østergaard has created a beautiful, sensory artwork as a gift to the town of Skælskør. The work consists of a total of five mosaic friezes with ceramic panels in many shapes, colours and techniques—each telling its own story. From the rich animal and plant life to symbols and figures that characterise the area around Skælskør. The friezes are a tribute to ceramic craftsmanship and at the same time show a great love for the town.

Since the 1960s, Gerda Østergaard has worked with stoneware and porcelain and has been behind a wide range of ceramic installations in public spaces—both in Sorø, Slagelse and Holbæk. Her work is inspired by Middle Eastern ornamentation and characterised by a particular calm and precision in both colour choices and composition. She lives and works in Skælskør, where she runs a workshop and gallery at Bruuns Hjørne. Gerda is also an active part of the town’s creative community, including as part of Kunstnerlavet KIT.

Visit Gerda in tent no. 10 by the canal.

The project is a collaboration between Kunstnerlavet KIT and Guldagergaard – International Ceramic Research Center, with funds donated by Holmene Holding and Bettina & John Christensen

The last and fifth work will be installed in late summer 2025 and donated by Keramikfestival’s audience, the citizens of Skælskør, and everyone else who wishes to contribute.

The Ehlers Collection

Are you a potter, ceramicist, or ceramics enthusiast? Then stop by the library!

The Ehlers Collection—Northern Europe’s largest collection of earthenware—will be popping up again at this year’s
Ceramics Festival.

Come and enjoy the earthenware, which is part of folk culture and, among other things, consists of decorated
everyday objects, designed from place to place according to local potters’ imagination and
skills, as well as the individual wishes and needs of local residents.

Each individual piece of earthenware is characterised by a special character and tells a contemporary
story about our forefathers’ and foremothers’ everyday life and celebrations.

A little teaser… The Bellman tableware set from Knabstrup is part of this year’s exhibition.

You can read more about the Ehlers Collection or visit us in Haderslev for the full
experience.
