Come and be enchanted by the festival atmosphere in the beautiful, dome-shaped tents at Skælskør’s fairytale harbour. The day offers some of the very best of the Danish ceramics scene, as more than 80 professional ceramists exhibit and sell their works along the harbour.
On this day, the whole town is buzzing with life, so also visit the local ceramics workshops, the special exhibitions, and take part in various workshops for both adults and children, where the clay can be sensed, felt, and experienced.
A tribute to ceramics
Clay and its mysteries have an eternal ability to fascinate and captivate artists with its malleability and unpredictability. For millennia, the material has served humankind as storytellers, utilitarian objects, and aesthetic pieces. Therefore, it is time to celebrate ceramics in its own right.
The wonder of clay is not only its millennia-long history, which reaches back to some of the first processed things made by human hands, but also its constant ability to evolve, challenge, and re-emerge in new forms. In recent years, ceramics have experienced a renaissance, and ceramic craftsmanship is flourishing—both in ceramic art and ceramic design. More and more people are discovering what the material can do, how flexible it is in relation to its own identity, and how infinitely many facets and expressions it contains.
That is what we celebrate at Keramikfestival: the diversity of nuances. That is why we range from craft and everyday objects to the innovative vanguards of Danish and international art.
Ceramics in the ceramics town
The Ceramics Festival at the harbour in Skælskør emerged from the area’s vibrant artist community, which creates unique art and cultural projects.
The Ceramics Festival is an annual event for professional ceramists and ceramics-loving guests, inspiring with an experience of the very best Danish ceramics. For the exhibiting ceramists, it is an occasion to meet colleagues for professional conversation and convivial get-togethers in the wonderful setting that our charming “ceramics town” provides.
The Ceramics Festival 2026 is open to the public on Wednesday, 8 July, from 10:00 to 18:00. The main exhibition area is on the quay along the canal, as well as on the lawn by the harbour, with views of old houses, sailboats, seabirds, and harbour hands. There will also be special ceramics exhibitions throughout the town, a raffle, shuttle rides in vintage buses, and workshops on the quay, where both adults and children can try their hand at working with clay.
Organisers
The Ceramics Festival is organised by Kunstnerlavet KIT, and the event is coordinated by project coordinator Bettina Højer in collaboration with Cecilie Dige, Michelle De Cordier, Helene Fridan Pedersen, Christian Glahn, and Pernille Kirkeskov-Hansen. Skælskør Bykontor, Købmandsgården, and a great many volunteers help make it all possible, and we are all deeply grateful!
The Ceramics Festival is supported by a wide range of sponsors as well as Slagelse Municipality.
